LIST OF SUPPLIES
Workshop Dates: -
United States
SUPPLY LIST…PHYLLIS PRANSKY 239-642-7649
BRING SUPPLIES YOU HAVE OR WHATS AFFORDABLE... ( for a plein air class bring an OUTDOOR EASEL)
ASW Artist Supply Warehouse SALE catalogue is great..1-800-995-6778 www.aswexpress.com
My goal is to teach you to bring your paintings to a 3d believable life
hard to do from a photo which are chemical and the artist winds up copying them instead of communicating personal vision… (discussion will follow IN CLASS)
Please bring a personal simple setup (3 objects of different size, consider shapes and color too...perhaps cloth for backdrop. Giving life to your painting becomes easier when a setup has personal meaning . You will learn to write, produce, direct, choreograph and COMMUNICATE your concept; Your own story on canvas, your own feelings of interest, love, opinion etc… (discussion to follow in class) A large enough cardboard box to put your setup in will give you a stage for your play also makes it easier to carry stuff… The essential oil paint colors are the primary colors: red, yellow blue plus black and white
I find I use the following colors: ** essential to bring
**Permalba White Large Tube
Cadmium Yellow Light
**Cadmium Yellow Medium
Cadmium Yellow Deep
Cadmium Orange
**Cadmium Red Light
**Cadmium Red Medium
**Alizerin Crimson
Permanent Rose
Diozinine Purple
Manganese Blue or Cerulean Blue
Cobalt Blue
**Ultramarine Blue
Ivory Black
GREENS: Sapp green (HANDY FOR LANDSCAPE) viridian green phalo green
There are so many other colors to experiment with and talk about..some transparent some opaque…
So many other colors to experiment with and talk about
I SUGGEST THE BEST YOU CAN AFFORD BECAUSE STUDENT BRANDS HAVE A LOT OF FILLERS. IT”S DISCOURAGING TO PUT YOUR ENERGY INTO SOMETHING THAT DRIES WITHOUT LUST OR IS MEDIOCRE IN THE FINISHED LOOK…I enjoy different brands but I believe Gamblin is a good brand as is Windsor Newton, not student grade Winton…
PALETTE KNIFE…steel
BRUSHES: bristol hair for oil: a small one for detail #1-3 #5 is my average size #8 is good
I use bristal filberts # 1, 2 &3 #5 and #8 ….i experiment with different ones, fan brushes, brights, flats, chisels
I use soft sable like #8 #12 and a thin signing brush and i love mongoose brushes
PALETTE 12x16 can be wood, plastic, lucite, paper, glass (stephen quiller has a gray paper pallet pad that I use for quick cleanup but glass ¼ ½ in tempered glass cleans very easy…………
I love to work on glass…i had mine cut at the glass shop to fit my palette box
OIL & TURP DOUBLE CLIP ON CUPS TO HOLD OIL AND TURPENOID
MASTERSON PALETTE HOLDER BOX is like tupperware i have mine for many years…..it helps me keep paint fresh for days and keeps my car and studio clean…
SMALL COLD PRESSED LINSEED OIL
TURPENOID IN BLUE CAN (no turpentine please)
CANVASES 16x20 0r your choice
Paper towels/rags (bounty) Hand wipes, table cover
